Your old program still works.
Until the day it doesn't.

I build the replacement for the software nobody supports any more, the job book on the bench, or the spreadsheet only one person understands.

  • A free written plan: plain English, a fixed price, yours to keep whether you go ahead or not.
  • You own it. The software and the data are yours. Nothing held hostage.
  • You ring me, not a call centre. The number up the top is my mobile.

You already know which one is yours

Nearly every business I sit down with is living with one of these three. Usually they've been living with it for years.

The vendor's gone

The bloke who wrote it retired, sold up, or stopped answering the phone in 2016. There's no support line to ring, and no updates coming.

It only runs on the old machine

One PC in the corner nobody's allowed to touch, because the software won't install on anything newer and the licence disc is in a drawer somewhere.

It lives in a book

Jobs, bookings, measurements and prices in a diary, a docket book, or a spreadsheet that only works if one particular person is at work that day.

Four steps, and you can stop after the second

The plan is free and it's yours either way. Most people want to see it in writing before they decide anything. That's the point.

Step one

We talk on site

An hour in your workshop, not a video call. I watch how the job actually gets done. If an off-the-shelf product already does it, I'll tell you that and go home.

Step two

You get the plan, free

A written, plain-English page: what I'd build, what it costs, how long it takes. Yours to keep whether you go ahead or not.

Step three

I build it

You see it working partway through, not just at the end. Your existing records come across, and I train your people on site.

Step four

I keep it running

Hosting, backups and fixes handled monthly. When something needs changing, you ring me, not a call centre.

A real one

A chocolatier was running his designs through a program from over a decade ago. It was locked to a dongle, and it couldn't copy and paste. Every repeat job was typed out again from scratch.

I replaced it with something built for exactly how he works. Nothing more, nothing he didn't ask for. He owns it.

What people tell me afterwards

It's rarely about the software. What comes up most is that I pick up the phone, that things come back faster than expected, and that I'm not watching the clock while we work out what's actually needed. I'd rather say that plainly in my own words than dress it up as a quote. My clients would rather not be named, and I'm not going to put words in their mouths. If you want to hear it from one of them directly, ask me on the call and I'll arrange it.

I'd rather turn you away than take your money

I build for two businesses at a time. That means being straight with you about whether this is worth doing at all.

Worth a conversation

  • Your software is unsupported, unstable, or stuck on one machine
  • A real part of the job still runs on paper or a fragile spreadsheet
  • You do something the off-the-shelf products were never designed for
  • You're in Hobart or southern Tasmania and want someone who'll turn up

Probably not worth it

  • An off-the-shelf product already does the job properly, and you know it
  • You want the cheapest possible quote rather than the right fix
  • Nobody in the business has time to tell me how the work actually happens
  • You need it finished next week. Good work takes a bit longer than that

The plan is the promise

Everything gets written down before a cent moves: what I'm building, what it costs, how long it takes. That page is what I'm held to.

If it isn't doing what the plan says within sixty days of handover, I keep working at no extra charge until it does.

Questions people actually ask

What does it cost?

It depends entirely on what you need. That is why there is no price list on this page. I would only be guessing, and you would only be comparing guesses. You get a written plan with a fixed price before you commit to anything. The plan is free and it is yours to keep whether you go ahead or not.

How long does a build take?

Anywhere from a couple of weeks for one process to a few months for a whole business. The plan tells you the timeframe before you decide, and you will see it working partway through rather than waiting until the end.

What happens to my data if I stop working with you?

You own your data and you own the software. If you walk away, you take it with you. Nothing is held hostage and there is no exit fee.

Isn't this just what ServiceM8 or Tradify does?

Sometimes, yes. If an off-the-shelf product already does the job, I'll tell you that and go home. Those products are good. They stop being good the moment your business does something they were never designed for. That is usually the exact thing that matters most to you.

Who actually does the work?

Me. I'm not an agency, there's no account manager, and the number at the top of this page is my mobile. That's also why I only build for two businesses at a time.

Do you work outside Hobart?

Hobart and southern Tasmania: Glenorchy, Moonah, Kingston, Margate, Huonville, Cygnet, Sorell, Richmond, New Norfolk, Bridgewater and the Channel. If you are a bit further out, ring me and we will work out whether it is practical.

What if it goes wrong after handover?

If it isn't doing what the plan says within sixty days of handover, I keep working at no extra charge until it does. After that, ongoing hosting, backups and fixes are handled monthly.
